Islamic Foundation in Prague – Overview

The Islamic Foundation in Prague was established on 18 November 1993 and officially registered by the Czech Ministry of Culture as an independent charitable organization. The Waqf serves the Muslim community in the Czech Republic and oversees the administration of Islamic centers across the country.


Mission and Objectives

The Islamic Foundation aims to:

  • Manage and operate Islamic centers in the Czech Republic and provide appropriate conditions for Muslims to practice their faith and preserve their religious identity.
  • Present Islam accurately and promote a correct understanding of Islam and Muslims within Czech society.
  • Spread and strengthen Islamic teachings among Muslims and engage in outreach to non-Muslims through lectures, seminars, educational programs, and publications adapted to the local context.
  • Support the establishment of Islamic educational institutions, including a kindergarten and a comprehensive Islamic school serving the Muslim community.

Main Activities

1. Outreach to Non-Muslims

  • Organizing regular public lectures introducing Islam.
  • Hosting school and university visits at the Islamic Center in Prague.
  • Participating in lectures, seminars, conferences, and interfaith dialogue events, including activities held in churches.
  • Providing academic support and consultation for bachelor’s and master’s theses related to Islam or the Islamic world.
  • Engaging with media platforms (press, television, radio, and online platforms) to address misconceptions and present Islam objectively.

2. Educational Programs for Czech Muslims

  • Regular lessons and lectures in Qur’an, Islamic creed, jurisprudence (fiqh), Hadith, and Prophetic biography (Seerah).
  • Translation, publication, and distribution of Islamic books and educational materials in the Czech language, including Qur’an translations and foundational Islamic literature.

3. Programs for Arabic-Speaking Muslims

  • Ongoing religious classes covering Qur’an, creed, fiqh, Hadith, and Seerah.
  • Qur’an memorization courses.
  • Educational and recreational programs for children, including summer camps and spiritual retreats.
  • Regular educational programs for women.

4. Ramadan and Eid Programs

  • Daily communal iftar meals during Ramadan.
  • Religious lessons and educational competitions throughout the month.
  • Organizing i‘tikaf during the last ten nights of Ramadan.
  • Eid celebrations, including communal prayers, cultural programs, and children’s activities.

5. Social and Humanitarian Services

  • Supporting refugees and vulnerable Muslims through visits, financial assistance, and educational resources.
  • Prison outreach, including Friday sermons, religious materials, and humanitarian aid.
  • Conducting marriage contracts, facilitating children’s circumcision in public hospitals, and managing Islamic funeral services and burials.
  • Collecting and distributing zakat and charitable donations to families and individuals in need.
