We worship Him alone and seek His help alone. We bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) is His servant and His Messenger. Allah says: “O you who believe, fear Allah and speak words of truth. He will set right your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has indeed attained a great success.”

In these days, we remember the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam), which—according to many scholars—took place on the twenty-seventh night of the month of Rajab. This occasion renews faith in our hearts and reminds us of lessons that remain alive and relevant for every generation.

The memory of this event touches the heart like a gentle breeze, awakening longing for faith and deep love for the one at the center of this journey—the Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam). It lifts hearts toward Allah, raising them to horizons of certainty, hope, and trust.

The Night Journey is not merely a historical event to be remembered and forgotten. It is a living message that combines pain and hope: the pain of a reality in which Muslims have drifted away from the causes of strength and honor, and the hope that Islam remains light and guidance capable of restoring dignity, purpose, and leadership to this Ummah.

Let us pause at this blessed occasion to reflect, to learn, and to drink from the spring of guidance that illuminates our path. For the Night Journey of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) is a message whose relevance never fades.

First Message: Hope Is Renewed in Times of Hardship

Every hardship carries within it a blessing. After every difficulty comes relief, and with hardship comes ease. After the darkest night, dawn inevitably breaks.

The call to Islam in Makkah had become extremely difficult. Quraysh united against the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Companions. After the passing of Abu Talib and Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with them), persecution intensified. Then came the journey to Ta’if, where the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) faced rejection, humiliation, and stones thrown at him.

Despite finding every door closed and every path blocked, the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) never lost certainty. He said to Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him): “Allah will surely provide a way out for what you see. He will support His religion and grant victory to His Prophet.”

Then came divine honor from above the heavens. Allah raised His Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) and sent him a clear message: if the people of the earth abandon you, the heavens will honor you; and if creation turns away from you, the Creator Himself will choose you.

Allah says: “Glory be to Him who took His servant by night…” (17:1)

This is a message for every believer: when trials increase, enemies unite against you, and even those close to you disappoint you, turn sincerely to Allah—especially in the stillness of the night—and be certain that victory is near and relief is close.

Second Message: You Are Meant to Lead—So Why Despair?

During the Night Journey, the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) led all the prophets in prayer. This was not incidental; it was a clear declaration that this Ummah is meant to guide humanity by Allah’s guidance—bringing people from darkness into light.

Allah says: “Thus We have made you a just and balanced nation…” (2:143)

Humanity suffered only when Muslims abandoned this responsibility and surrendered leadership to those who knew nothing but oppression and destruction. Muslims forgot their noble legacy, while others studied their past, drew strength from it, and advanced—while we neglected our own spiritual and civilizational heritage.

Third Message: Al-Aqsa and the Sacred Mosque Are One Cause

The Qur’an connects the Sacred Mosque in Makkah and Al-Aqsa Mosque spiritually, historically, and symbolically. This connection reminds us that caring for one cannot be separated from caring for the other.

Neglecting Al-Aqsa weakens the heart’s connection to the Sacred Mosque, and weakening either weakens our collective responsibility. History and present reality both show that Al-Aqsa is not merely a place—it represents faith, identity, and trust. Protecting it is part of protecting the Ummah’s spiritual legacy.

Fourth Message: Worship Is the Path to True Liberation

In the verse of the Night Journey, Allah described His Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) as His servant. Likewise, liberation—true liberation—comes only through sincere servitude to Allah.

Victory does not come through slogans or strength alone, but through returning honestly to Allah, purifying worship, obeying Him consciously, and raising generations who bow only to Him and seek dignity only through Him.

Servants of Allah,

The Night Journey of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) is an eternal reassurance: that relief follows hardship, that patience and certainty lead to victory, and that sincere worship of Allah is the path to honor and strength.

Renew your covenant with Allah. Hold firmly to your faith. Carry your responsibilities with patience. And be certain that Allah’s promise is true and that relief is near.

On this blessed occasion, we ask Almighty Allah to make the Night Journey and Ascension a light in our hearts, firm faith in our chests, and clear insight that guides us on our path.

Friday khutba – 16 January 2026 (27 Rajab 1447 AH) The Prophet’s Night Journey and Ascension – A Timeless Message All praise is due to Allah.
