Allah the Almighty says: \u201cO Prophet! We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of good news, and a warner, and as one who calls to Allah by His permission, and as a radiant lamp.\u201d<\/strong> [Qur\u2019an, Al-Ahzab 33:45\u201346]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) was born in Makkah in the Year of the Elephant, around 571 CE<\/strong>, into the noble tribe of Quraysh and the respected clan of Banu Hashim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is well established that he was born on a Monday<\/strong>. When the Prophet (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on Mondays, he replied: \u201cIt is the day on which I was born and the day on which I received revelation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The exact date of his birth within the month of Rabi\u02bf al-Awwal has been a matter of discussion among historians and scholars of the Prophetic biography. The most widely known tradition among Muslims places his birth on 12 Rabi\u02bf al-Awwal in the Year of the Elephant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is therefore historically appropriate to say that Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) was born on a Monday in the month of Rabi\u02bf al-Awwal, in the Year of the Elephant, around 571 CE. According to the most widely known tradition, his birth is commemorated on 12 Rabi\u02bf al-Awwal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2026, the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) falls on Tuesday, 25 August.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The year of his birth is closely associated with the remarkable event known as the Year of the Elephant<\/strong>. Abraha marched towards Makkah with an army intending to destroy the Ka\u02bfbah, but Allah protected His Sacred House. This event is remembered in Surah Al-Fil: \u201cHave you not seen how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?\u201d<\/strong>[Qur\u2019an, Al-Fil 105:1]<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Prophet\u2019s father, Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib<\/strong>, died before his son was born. Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) therefore entered the world as an orphan. His mother was Aminah bint Wahb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the signs associated with his Prophethood, the Prophet (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) spoke of the supplication of Prophet Ibrahim, the glad tidings of Prophet Isa (Jesus), and the vision of his mother, who saw at the time of his birth a light that illuminated the palaces of Al-Sham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His grandfather, Abd al-Muttalib<\/strong>, named him Muhammad. During his early childhood, he was cared for and nursed by Halimah al-Sa\u02bfdiyyah<\/strong> of Banu Sa\u02bfd, among whom he spent part of his childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To appreciate the significance of his birth and the mission that followed, it is helpful to recall some of the defining moments of his life:<\/p>\n\n\n\n His blessed life lasted approximately sixty-three years<\/strong>. He lived for about forty years before receiving revelation and for another twenty-three years as a Prophet and Messenger of Allah \u2014 approximately thirteen years in Makkah and ten years in Madinah<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) was born into a society marked by ignorance, injustice, tribal conflict, and deep social divisions. At the age of forty, Allah entrusted him with a mission that would transform not only Arabia but also profoundly influence the course of human history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He called people from darkness into light, affirmed the dignity of every human being, and taught a way of life founded upon faith, justice, mercy, responsibility, and noble character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His birth was therefore more than the beginning of the life of an extraordinary man. It marked the beginning of a life through which a message of faith and guidance would reach people across nations, cultures, and generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Allah the Almighty says: \u201cThere has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book, through which Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to the ways of peace.\u201d<\/strong> [Qur\u2019an, Al-Ma\u2019idah 5:15\u201316]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) is an opportunity to reflect upon his life, teachings, and character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Love for the Prophet (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam), however, should not be limited to words or expressions of affection. Its true meaning is found in following his example and bringing the values he taught into our own lives \u2014 mercy, justice, honesty, trustworthiness, patience, and kindness towards others.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Allah says: \u201cSay: If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.\u201d<\/strong> [Qur\u2019an, Aal \u02bfImran 3:31]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Although the Prophet (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) departed from this world more than fourteen centuries ago, his example remains alive. His teachings continue to guide believers, his message continues to inspire people, and his name is remembered every day by Muslims throughout the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The commemoration of the Prophet\u2019s birth also reminds us of one of the central principles of Islam: the dignity of every human being and the importance of justice, compassion, and respect in our dealings with others.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Allah the Almighty says: \u201cIndeed, We have honoured the children of Adam, carried them on land and sea, provided them with good things, and favoured them above many of those We created.\u201d<\/strong> [Qur\u2019an, Al-Isra\u02be 17:70]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Islam challenged tribal arrogance, injustice, and discrimination based on ancestry or colour. It reminded humanity of its common origin and taught that true honour is not determined by race, nationality, wealth, or social position, but by righteousness and good deeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This message remains deeply relevant today. At a time when societies continue to experience conflict, division, and hatred, the example of Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) calls us to protect human life and dignity, respect the rights of others, act justly, and support those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the defining qualities of the mission of Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) was mercy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Allah says: \u201cWe have sent you only as a mercy to all the worlds.\u201d<\/strong> [Qur\u2019an, Al-Anbiya\u02be 21:107]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mercy was not merely something the Prophet (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) preached; it was reflected in the way he lived. He showed tenderness towards children, respect for the elderly, compassion for the weak, and concern for those in need. He emphasized the rights of orphans, the poor, and neighbours, and encouraged kindness, generosity, and care for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Remembering his birth should therefore inspire us to bring these values into our own lives: to strengthen compassion within our families, mutual respect within society, good relations with our neighbours, support for those in need, reconciliation between people, and the upbringing of our children in good character and noble values.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Remembering the birth of Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) is not simply about recalling an event that took place more than fourteen centuries ago. It is also an opportunity to reflect on ourselves and ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n How much of the Prophet\u2019s character can be seen in the way we live today?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Are we truthful? Do we honour the trust placed in us? Do we show compassion to the vulnerable? Are we good to our neighbours? Can we forgive those who have wronged us? And are we teaching our children to know the Prophet (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam), to love him, and to learn from his example?<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the most meaningful expressions of love for the Prophet (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) is to teach our children about his life and character<\/strong> \u2014 to tell them how he treated people and to help them understand that his example belongs not only to history but also to our lives today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His life remains a source of guidance for believers in their relationship with Allah, within their families, in their work, and in their relationships with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) was born an orphan in Makkah. At the age of forty, he received his Prophetic mission. For twenty-three years, he conveyed the message of Islam. He migrated from Makkah to Madinah, where a community founded upon faith, justice, responsibility, and mercy developed. He later returned to Makkah, and the message he carried eventually spread far beyond the Arabian Peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More than fourteen centuries after the Hijrah<\/strong>, his name continues to be heard in the call to prayer. Muslims throughout the world ask Allah to bless him and grant him peace, study his life, learn from his Sunnah, and teach their children to know and love him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) reminds us that the light he brought is the light of faith, guidance, mercy, justice, and noble character<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our love for him should therefore not remain only in our words. It should be visible in our character, our actions, and in the way we treat other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Allah the Almighty says: \u201cIndeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.\u201d<\/strong> [Qur\u2019an, Al-Ahzab 33:21]<\/p>\n\n\n\n We ask Allah the Almighty to fill our hearts with love for Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam), to help us sincerely follow his path and live according to his noble example. May He strengthen mercy, justice, and goodness within us, guide our children and future generations, and gather us with our beloved Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam) in the gardens of Paradise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n May Allah bless our Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu \u02bbalayhi wa sallam), his family and his Companions, and grant them peace.
