Friday Sermon – June 26, 2026 (11 Muharram 1448 AH)

Renewing Our Relationship with the Qur’an

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help and His forgiveness. We bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, and that Muhammad (salla lláhu ʻalajhi wa sallam) is His servant and Messenger.Allah, the Exalted, says:“O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak words of truth. He will rectify your deeds, forgive your sins, and whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has indeed achieved a great success.” (Qur’an 33:70–71)

Dear brothers and sisters,

One of the greatest blessings Allah has bestowed upon humanity is the Qur’an—the Book that gives life to hearts, heals souls, and guides people to the straight path. In today’s fast-paced world, filled with worries and endless responsibilities, we need more than ever to return to the Qur’an and seek from it peace, certainty, and spiritual strength.

Nothing revives the heart or strengthens faith like the Qur’an. It is not merely a Book to be recited, but the light of Allah that removes doubt, brings tranquility, and illuminates the path of righteousness. It supports the student in learning, the parents in raising their children, the worker in daily struggles, and everyone searching for purpose, peace, and guidance.

Life is a journey toward Allah, and the Qur’an is the light that guides us along that journey. Yet we should honestly ask ourselves: What place does the Qur’an occupy in our lives today? It is often present on our shelves, but not always alive in our hearts.

Never before has the Qur’an been as accessible as it is today. We have printed copies, mobile applications, translations, and countless resources. The challenge is not a lack of access, but a lack of time, consistency, and attention. Many of us struggle to devote even a few minutes each day to reading and reflecting upon the words of Allah, although it is through the Qur’an that hearts find true peace, guidance, and strength.

The first generation of Muslims made the Qur’an the center of their lives. They reflected deeply on its meanings, lived according to its teachings, and put its guidance into practice. As a result, Allah transformed their hearts, changed their lives, and honored them among the nations.

The Qur’an was not revealed merely to be recited, but to be understood, contemplated, and implemented. Allah says:

“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you so that they may reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding may take heed.” (Qur’an 38:29)

The Qur’an is also a source of healing, mercy, and guidance. Allah says: “We send down in the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers.” (Qur’an 17:82)

And He also says: “Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright.” (Qur’an 17:9)

So how can we renew our relationship with the Qur’an?

  • Set aside time every day to read it, even if it is only a few verses.
  • Read it with understanding and reflect upon its meanings.
  • Seek the explanation of verses you do not understand.
  • Read the Qur’an with your family and encourage your children to love it.
  • Strive to apply its teachings in your daily life.

We ask Allah to make the Qur’an the light of our hearts, the source of our peace, and our guide on the path to Him. May He grant us the ability to recite it regularly, understand it correctly, and live according to its teachings.

Āmīn.
